On their way to a key, season-ending series with the Tampa Bay Rays, the Baltimore Orioles' chartered team plane caught fire, forcing the team to land at Jacksonville's airport late Sunday night.

As the Orioles headed to the St. Petersburg to take on the Rays after completing a three-game sweep of the Boston Red Sox, a fire was spotted, NBC Sports reports. Currently, there is no word as to what caused the fire, but the team is safe and sound at Jacksonville's airport while the situation is evaluated.

The Orioles enter the final series of the regular season locked in a tie with the New York Yankees atop the American League East division and American League Wild Card races. While the Yankees take on the Red Sox in their final series of the season in the Bronx, the Rays and Orioles will spar in Florida.

The Rays remain alive in the Wild Card chase, three games back of the Oakland Athletics for the league's second Wild Card spot.

Though the matchups are different, the same four teams were involved in the now-familiar final day of the 2011 season, which saw the Rays dramatically clinch a spot in the playoffs with a stunning come-from-behind victory over the Yankees, while the Orioles topped the Red Sox.
