The Toronto Blue Jays used a big seventh inning to defeat the Baltimore Orioles 6-4 on Wednesday night in Toronto.

After playing to a 2-2 tie for the better part of four innings, the Blue Jays (61-75) opened up a lead with a leadoff double from Yunel Escobar in the seventh. The shortstop would then score on an Adeiny Hechavarria bunt single, which was enough to knock Baltimore starter Miguel Gonzalez out of the game after 6 1/3 innings.

The Jays then pushed across three more runs on a single from Rajai Davis, which scored two runs and also led to Anthony Gose scoring on an Adam Jones throwing error.

After six strong innings, Gonzalez (6-4) took the loss for the Orioles (76-60) for the three earned runs he allowed in the seventh. Aside from the throwing error, Jones was 2-for-3 at the plate, including his 27th home run of the year. First baseman Mark Reynolds hit a two-run homer with two outs in the ninth to give Baltimore some hope, but Omar Quintanilla struck out to end the game.

Davis led the Toronto at the plate, going 2-for-3 with three RBI. Reliever Steve Delabar (4-1) picked up the win for the Blue Jays.

Entering the night, Baltimore was tied atop the American League East with the New York Yankees, who currently lead the Tampa Bay Rays 6-4 in the ninth inning.
