Dwayne DeRosario's 77th minute goal was enough to give Canada a 1-0 victory over Panama in Friday's 2014 World Cup qualifier. Three games into the third round of this CONCACAF tournament, Canada finds itself atop Group C with 7 points. They are one point ahead of Panama and three points clear of third-place Honduras, who beat Cuba earlier.
Canada Vs. Panama, 2014 World Cup Qualifying: Dwayne DeRosario Leads Way To Win
Canada got their goal on a quick free kick, slipping behind a seemingly clueless defense as Atiba Hutchinson floated in a ball from the edge of the penalty area and DeRosario was able to tap it in. It was DeRosario’s 20th international goal, more than any other player in the country’s history.
Up until then, it seemed a safe bet that Canada would leave two points on the table while playing at home in what was virtually a must-win game in order for them to move on to the next round of qualifying. They will need to finish in the top two of the group.
