Washington at LSU NFL Draft watch notes

Getty Images

Even against North Texas last week, LSU was a fascinating watch. Zach Mettenberger was in his first game as a starter and did moderately well. The loaded defense was on display, but not defensive end Sam Montgomery. They may have even found new stars in running back Kenny Hilliard and wide receiver Odell Beckham (both sophomores).

In regard to the draft, LSU had five players drafted in 2012 and six in 2011. Conversely, Washington has only had four total in the same time. But this will be an important game for the Huskies. We'll find out a lot about quarterback Keith Price and cornerback Desmond Trufant (the only two players whom I seriously consider for next year's draft).

A quick note: LSU offensive tackle Chris Faulk won't play today and is out the rest of the year with a knee injury.

Check out more about the game after the jump.

Washington at No. 3 LSU, 7 p.m., ESPN

LSU Tigers 2013 NFL Draft prospects:

Offense:
No. 8 - Zach Mettenberger, QB - 6'5, 230 pounds (Junior), No. 11 - Spencer Ware, RB - 5'11, 225 pounds, No. 72 - Alex Hurst, OT - 6'6, 331 pounds

Defense: No. 1 - Eric Reid, S - 6'2, 212 pounds (Junior), No. 18 - Bennie Logan, DT - 6'3, 295 pounds (Junior), No. 24 - Tharold Simon, 6'3, 193 pounds, No. 49 - Barkevious Mingo, DE - 6'5, 240 pounds (Junior), No. 99 - Sam Montgomery, DE - 6'5, 260 pounds (Junior)

Washington Huskies 2013 NFL Draft prospects:

Offense:
No. 17 - Keith Price, QB - 6'1, 202 pounds (Junior), No. 88 - Austin Sefarian-Jenkins, TE - 6'6, 266 pounds (Sophomore), No. 73 - Drew Schaefer, C - 6'4, 294 pounds (Senior)

Defense: No. 6 - Desmond Trufant, CB - 6'0, 186 pounds (Senior),

Matchup of the game:

Washington CB Desmond Trufant (No. 6) vs. LSU WR Odell Beckham (No. 3)

Trufant has never stood out as a draft prospect, but he has good tools and some upside. Last week, Beckham looked like a future star. He's a crisp route runner with good hands. Trufant could use a good game, and it could happen today if he can shutdown Beckham when the face off.

Questions of the night:

Will Sam Montgomery see more playing time last week?

Montgomery was replaced in the starting lineup last week by senior Lavar Edwards and didn't play in much of the game. Montgomery, who looks more filled out, didn't record a single tackle last week. It's not a downward spiral in regard to his draft prospects, but Montgomery's playing time is worth noting.

How legit of an NFL prospect is Washington quarterback Keith Price?

We'll find out a lot about Price this week. The Tigers are far and away the best defense he'll play all year, strictly from a talent standpoint. Price completed 25 of 35 passes last week, connecting with nine different receivers. Price's size is a concern and his durability may be tested tonight.
