Chris Narveson, Brewers avoid arbitration

The lefty will make $840,000 next season.

Daniel Shirey-US PRESSWIRE

Chris Narveson and the Milwaukee Brewers have avoided arbitration by agreeing on a deal worth $840,000, the team has announced. The left-handed starter was eligible for arbitration for the first time.

Narveson missed most of the 2012 season due to a torn rotator cuff. He made only two starts before being shut down for the season. He started 56 games for the Brewers between 2010 and 2011, posting a 4.73 ERA in a total of 329⅓ innings.

The 31-year-old Narveson hopes to rejoin a Brewers' rotation that features Yovani Gallardo and a number of question marks. With the departures of Zack Greinke, Randy Wolf and Shaun Marcum due to trade, free agency and free agency, respectively, the Brewers will be relying on the likes of Marco Estrada, Mike Fiers, Mark Rogers, Wily Peralta and Tyler Thornburg to round out the rotation. None have much experience in a big league rotation though, and if Narveson proves healthy, he would be the most veteran starter behind Gallardo.
