The Philadelphia Flyers have signed veteran defenseman Kurtis Foster to a one-year contract reportedly worth $950,000, according to the NJ.com.

The Flyers have signed the veteran defenseman to aid a depleted defensive corps.

The signing gives the Flyers, already depleted on the blue line, a right-hand shot at the point and a veteran presence in front of the net. Foster made his NHL debut in 2002 with the Atlanta Thrashers and after a trade to the Anaheim Ducks, signed as a free agent with the Minnesota Wild. Foster spent most of his career with the Wild before breaking his femur early in the 2008-2009 season.
Foster played for the Ducks, the New Jersey Devils and the Minnesota Wild in 2011-12, with 14 points in 51 games overall. The veteran defenseman played 13 games with Tappara of the SM-Liiga during the lockout, scoring three goals and registering three assists.
The Flyers open the season on Saturday, Jan. 19, against the Pittsburgh Penguins at 3 p.m. ET. The game will be televised nationally on NBC.
