The Carolina Hurricanes have acquired forward Kevin Westgarth from the Los Angeles Kings, according to Renaud Levoie of RDS. In exchange for Westgarth, the Kings will receive forward Anthony Stewart, a 2013 fourth-round pick and a sixth-round pick in 2014.

Westgarth went undrafted out of Princeton University and made his debut with the Kings in the 2008-2009 season. Primarily an enforcer on the ice, Westgarth played 76 games in the AHL with the Manchester Monarchs before playing 56 games in 2010-11 and 25 games in 2011-12 with the Kings. In 90 NHL games, Westgarth has one goal, four assists and 153 penalty minutes.
Stewart was drafted No. 25 overall in 2003 by the Florida Panthers, debuting in 2005 and playing three seasons with Florida before signing with the Atlanta Thrashers as a free agent in 2009. Stewart signed a two-year contract with the Carolina Hurricanes following the Thrashers' move to Winnipeg, registering nine goals and eleven assists in 77 games in 2011-2012.
