The Carolina Hurricanes have agreed to a one-year, $650,000 contract with goaltender Dan Ellis, the team announced on Sunday. Ellis fills the void left by Brian Boucher, who was traded to the Philadelphia Flyers earlier in the day.

The Hurricanes have signed the veteran goaltender after trading Brian Boucher earlier on Sunday.

Ellis was drafted by the Dallas Stars in 2000, making his NHL debut in Feb. of 2004. After spending two full seasons in the AHL, Ellis signed as a free agent with the Predators and spent the next three seasons in Nashville. The goaltender signed a two-year contract with the Tampa Bay Lightning in the summer of 2010 and was then traded to the Ducks in Feb. of 2011.
Primarily a backup goaltender for his career, Ellis has a 2.68 goals-against average and .908 save percentage in 165 NHL games with an overall record of 72-57-15. Ellis played with the Charlotte Checkers in the AHL during the lockout, going 8-7-2 with a 2.46 GAA and .922 save percentage.
