NHL fans around the country will enjoy a discounted rate on Center Ice for the truncated 2013 season, with the package being offered at nearly a 40 percent prorated discount.

While fans were hoping for a free Center Ice package this season, providers are offering a significant discount for the lockout-shortened season.

iN DEMAND, the company that operates Center Ice for cable providers, is offering the package for just $49.99 for the upcoming 48-game season, compared to nearly $180 for the normal 82-game package. Center Ice offers up to 40 out-of-market games during the week and provides both home and away feeds for most games, as well as the ability to catch a replay of any games that might have been missed.
DirecTV, meanwhile, is offering the service for four payments of $14.99 compared to the normal rate of four payments of $42.95 for the full season. The prorated discount is nearly 40 percent off the normal price, with DirecTV offering many of the same perks of Center Ice as iN DEMAND.
NHL fans were hopeful that Center Ice would be free for the short season after the NHL Lockout wiped out nearly three months of hockey. Due to contractual obligations with cable and satellite providers, however, the service being free was likely never a possibility. A decent discount, however, is more than welcome.
