The St. Louis Blues have signed general manager Doug Armstrong to a five-year extension, according to Jeremy Rutherford of the Post-Dispatch. The Blues are expected to announce the extension during a press conference on Wednesday.

Armstrong began his career with the Minnesota North Stars before moving with the franchise to Dallas. Appointed general manager of the Stars in 2002, Armstrong joined the St. Louis Blues as assistant general manager in 2008. Armstrong was named as the Blues' general manager in 2010 and has been instrumental in turning the franchise around over since joining the team.
The Blues won the Central Division title in 2011-12 and advanced to the second round of the playoffs for the first time since 2002, losing in the semifinals to the eventual Cup-winner Los Angeles Kings. Armstrong was named the General Manager of the Year in 2012. The contract extension will keep Armstrong under contract through the 2017-2018 season.
The Blues will open the season on Saturday at home against the Detroit Red Wings.
