Top seed Novak Djokovic won a five-hour round of 16 battle with Stanislas Wawrinka Saturday night (1-6, 7-5, 6-4, 6-7 (5), 12-10) to move into the Australian Open quarterfinals. Djokovic dropped the first set 1-6 before winning the next two frames. Wawrinka took a fourth-set tiebreak, and the competitors played an epic fifth set, won when Djokovic broke Wawrinka’s serve for a 12-10 victory. Video of match point for Djokovic:

Djokovic now faces fifth-seeded Tomas Berdych in what will likely be the premiere match of the quarterfinals. Berdych mowed through unseeded South African Kevin Anderson in straight sets in the round of 16.

In the second quarterfinal from the top half of the bracket, No. 4 David Ferrer faces No. 10 Nicolas Almagro in an all-Spanish matchup. Ferrer cruised past Ken Nishikori in straight sets in the round of 16, and has lost just one set in his first four matches. Almagro moved through when No. 8 Janko Tipsarevic retired in the second set. Almagro led 6-2, 5-1 at the time.

Four matches remain in the round of 16, highlighted by No. 7 Jo-Wilfried Tsonga’s match with No. 9 Richard Gasquet. The lower-seeded Gasquet leads head-to-head matchups with his fellow countryman Tsonga, 4-3, though Tsonga won the last match between the two in 2009. In other action, No. 2 Roger Federer takes on Canadian Milos Raonic, third-ranked Andy Murray faces No. 14 Gilles Simon and unranked Frenchman Jeremy Chardy, fresh off an upset of No. 5 Juan Martin Del Potro, faces No. 21 Andreas Seppi.

The full men’s draw is available at the official Australian Open website.
