Aqib Talib: ‘I definitely enjoy being a Patriot’

After a disappointing loss in the AFC Championship Game Sunday night, Patriots cornerback Aqib Talib discussed his future in New England.

USA TODAY Sports

Patriots cornerback Aqib Talib was injured early in the AFC Championship Game Sunday night, cutting short what could be his final game with New England. With the season over, Talib has his eye on the free-agent market.

Talib discussed his future in New England on Monday, and while he had nice things to say about the franchise, he didn’t exactly sound confident that he would be returning next season:

“I’m still a Patriot. I think free agency don’t start ‘til March, so until then, I’m still a Patriot. And I’m going to enjoy my time.”

On whether or not he would like to stay on with his current team, Talib was clear that he has had a positive experience with the Pats:

“I definitely enjoy being a Patriot.”

Talib has only been with the Patriots for a few months, as he was traded from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Nov. 1. Considering New England's secondary woes, the team would be wise to make an effort at bringing Talib back. The Pats allowed 271.4 passing yards per game during the regular season, fourth-most in the NFL. And their 74 passes of 20 or more yards allowed easily led the league. Holding on to quality defensive back talent should be a priority going into the offseason.

In 10 games this season with New England and Tampa Bay, Talib accounted for 10 pass break-ups and two interceptions.
