For Baltimore Ravens safety Ed Reed, winning Sunday night's AFC Championship Game against the New England Patriots was special on multiple levels. Reed will have a chance to play in the first Super Bowl of his impressive 11-year career, and the St. Rose, La., native will be able to do it in front of family and old friends:

In addition to participating in his first Super Bowl, Ravens safety Ed Reed will have the pleasure of playing in front of hometown fans.

“It’s just awesome right now,” Reed told ESPN’s Jamison Hensley. “A great feeling. It’s amazing to be going back to New Orleans. I’m so grateful. To go to the Crescent City, here we come, baby.”
Reed went to Destrehan High School in St. Rose, which is roughly 22 miles from the Mercedes-Benz Superdome, the site of Super Bowl XLVII. For the nine-time Pro Bowler, making a homecoming for the biggest game of his life is about as good as it gets:
"I really don't have any words for it," Reed said. "I rushed into the locker room to call my mom because I know that my family has been going through some things. So I'm just thankful to be going home to New Orleans for the whole of New Orleans to see some hometown guys. (New Orleans native) Jacoby Jones, we talked about it. We're just grateful."
Reed has had a solid season for the Ravens, compiling four interceptions and 16 pass break-ups. He also has 58 tackles, three fumble recoveries and one tackle for loss.
The Ravens and San Francisco 49ers will meet in Super Bowl XLVII on Sunday, Feb. 3. Kickoff is set for approximately 6:30 p.m. ET, and the game will be televised on CBS.
