The proud institution that is sports blogging has a long and storied tradition with the “food metaphor”. It was perhaps the signature tag of the great Fire Joe Morgan, a website that made it its mission statement to raise awareness for just how often bad newspaper wordsmiths liked to compare left-handed relievers to things we all enjoy eating.
O.J. Mayo autographs a jar of mayonnaise
The pulp-free orange juice he presumably also signed is not pictured.

Those halcyon early days of the blog game are long gone, and all we have to show for it is "Parks and Recreation", but fortunately some forward-thinking Texas prankster is keeping the movement alive. At an autograph session with O.J. Mayo this week, the Dallas Mavericks guard was presented with, you guessed it, a jar of mayonnaise.
Mayo was also photographic with someone who wore his love of the food metaphor across his chest.
Which begs the question: did anyone ever make Darvin Ham sign a thick cut of meat? How many times has Samari Rolle autographed bread? These are questions worth asking.
