Petition to make Monday after the Super Bowl a national holiday

No one wants to go to work after eating and drinking for four hours on a Sunday -- so let’s make the Monday after the Super Bowl a national holiday.

Streeter Lecka

I grew up in Germany, which you don’t care about, but it allows me to share this anecdote: Since the home of now defunct Frankfurt Galaxy is six hours ahead of the East coast (time zones!), it meant my brother and I would wake up at midnight to watch the Super Bowl. My dad did his best to make the experience as much like a normal Super Bowl party as possible, which meant pizza rolls, root beer and Doritos at two in the morning.

It was great. But maybe the best part about it all was that my parents let us skip school on Monday, writing fake sick notes to excuse our absence. As we waited in line with a few other dozen kids pulling the same stunt, the solution became obvious: the Monday after the Super Bowl should be a holiday (my dad always said that would be his platform if were ever to run for President).

Fortunately, the noble people at 4for4.com are of similar thinking, and are now petitioning the Obama campaign to “declare the Monday following the Super Bowl a national holiday.”

We at 4for4.com Fantasy Football petition the Obama Administration to consider declaring the Monday following Super Bowl Sunday a national holiday. By doing so, the Obama Administration can promote camaraderie among the American people, keep the streets safer for our children on Sunday night and Monday morning, promote a productive workplace when work resumes on Tuesday, and honor the most popular event in modern American culture.

Needing 100,000 signatures by Feb 23, the petition has 3,281 as of this writing. Baby steps, people.
