You probably don't know this, but Denver Nuggets forward Kenneth Faried has two mothers. Waudda Faried and Carol Copeland have been together for 11 years and have been married since 2007.
Kenneth Faried speaks out in support of civil unions
The Denver Nuggets forward, who has two moms, put out this video supporting a recent bill that passed in the Colorado Senate.
This week featured a big breakthrough for the LGBT community, as the Colorado Senate approved a bill allowing same-sex couples to form civil unions. Because of this breakthrough, the Nuggets forward has put out this video pledging his public support.
In addition to that, Faried also said Thursday that his hope is to go even further:
“A lot of people [are] saying civil union,” Faried said. “I don’t like it being called that because I can get married to a female and it can be called a marriage. Why can’t a female be married to a female and male be married to a male and it be called a marriage? You still have the same thing, same love and happiness.”
As someone who appreciates when athletes take public stances on controversial issues, I applaud Faried for speaking out.
