2013 Winter X Games: Results for Day 2

Four gold medals went out at the X Games on Friday, the second day of this year’s games.

The primetime attraction Friday was the Snowboard Big Air, which featured a showdown between Torstein Horgmo, Mark McMorris and Stale Sandbech. McMorris, the defending champion in the event, was the first to complete the backside triple cork 1440 in the trick’s history. All three dropped the trick in Friday’s final.

But Horgmo’s switch backside triple cork 1440 took the gold. McMorris finished in second, and Sandbech took the bronze.

If being completely and utterly terrified is your thing, Halldor Helgason bailed on a 75-foot jump and fell directly on his face during qualifying for the Big Air final. He suffered a concussion, was briefly unconscious and was taken to the hospital. Here he is being taken off the mountain:

Louis-Felix Paradis, who won the Real Snow gold medal Thursday, won his second gold of the games in the Snowboard Street competition Friday (Real Snow is a medal awarded based on 60-second films shot before the games). Paradis, a Canadian, won the silver medal two years in a row on the Real Snow competition and was the 2011 silver medalist in the Snowboard Street.

Maddie Bowman, the 19-year-old defending silver medalist in the women’s Ski SuperPipe, took home the gold in the same event Friday. Her gold medal-winning run was her first of three allowed runs in the finals, hitting a pair of 900s on her way down the pipe to claim her first X Games gold medal.

In the men’s Ski SuperPipe, David Wise scored a 95.66 to claim the gold. Wise, a 22-year-old American, won the gold in last year’s SuperPipe as well.

Qualifying in the men’s Ski Slopestyle was Friday afternoon. British skier James Woods led the field of eight to qualify for Sunday’s final.
