eBay Item of the Day: A Million-Dollar Table Game?

If you buy something from a link, Vox Media may earn a commission. See our ethics statement.

When somebody lists a table game for $1.2 million, attention must be paid. The hook here is that the pieces and bat-shaped carrying case are sculpted from Sonoran Ironwood, which, as woods go, is rare, but still, is it worth the entire 2013 gross of Jose Arredondo? The Certificate of Authenticity might help you decide. It reads:

“This is to certify that you are the only person in the world to own the first and only baseball gameboard of its kind. Baseball at home is handmade out of ironwood by sonoran artesans. In testimony whereof, i have suscribed my signature under the seal of the game.”

The most expensive item found doing an “ironwood sculpture” search on eBay goes for about $1,000. There are 20 or so much smaller carved pieces in Baseball at Home, not including the large bat that stores it all. You might also want to know that the most expensive Monopoly set on eBay has an asking price of $703.49.

No need to thank me, I’m just trying to help you make an informed decision before you place your bid.
