The Americans held off Sweden, the defending champions, 3-1 in the gold medal game in Ufa, Russia on Saturday morning behind two goals from Rocco Grimaldi and another phenomenal performance from goalie John Gibson.
Gibson, who made 26 saves in the gold medal game, was named the tournament MVP -- and rightfully so. The Anaheim Ducks prospect and Pittsburgh native kept the Americans in game after game, none more than Saturday, the USA’s toughest test of the medal round.
