USA TODAY Sports

The No. 17 ranked Butler Bulldogs won their ninth game in a row on Saturday, cruising to a 57-44 victory over the New Orleans Privateers. With the victory, Butler improved to 12-2 on the season.

It wasn’t all easy for Butler, though, as New Orleans hung tight for the first 15 minutes of the game, before the Bulldogs pulled away right before intermission. Butler had just a 17-15 lead with four minutes to go in the first half, before a 7-3 run opened up a lead they would never relinquish.

For Butler, Khyle Marshall was the star in the win, finishing with 13 points and eight rebounds on Saturday afternoon. Kellen Dunham added 15 points off the bench for the Bulldogs, which have now won nine straight since their loss to Illinois on Nov. 21.

And now for the Bulldogs, the hard part of their schedule begins with their conference opener Wednesday at St. Joseph’s. Butler is entering its first year in the Atlantic 10, after spending the last 19 years in the Horizon League.

With the loss, New Orleans dropped to 3-10 on the season.

Lovell Cook scored 11 points in a losing effort for the Privateers, who will return to the court on Tuesday against San Jose State.
