Dwight Howard injury: Lakers’ star has torn labrum, out ‘at least a week’

The Los Angeles Lakers’ star will miss at least a week after aggravating a shoulder injury in Sunday’s loss to the Denver Nuggets.

USA TODAY Sports

Los Angeles Lakers center Dwight Howard has suffered a torn labrum in his right shoulder and will miss at least a week, the team announced on Monday:

Howard suffered the injury in the team's loss to the Los Angeles Clippers on Friday and tried to play through it during Sunday's game against the Denver Nuggets, but ended up aggravating the injury. An MRI Monday revealed the news.

Howard initially suffered a sprained rotator cuff when he was stripped by Caron Butler in the second half of the Lakers' 107-102 loss to the Clippers on Friday. He elected to play through the pain and ended up notching 26 points and 14 rebounds in the loss, but was seen with an ice pack around his shoulder after the game.

Howard has already been limited all year after recovering from offseason back surgery. It remains to be seen how long he'll sit out, but it's worth noting that Steve Nash's leg injury was originally only supposed to keep him out for "at least a week." He ended up missing 23 games.
