Wyoming Cowboys fire defensive coordinator Chris Tormey

Tormey’s Cowboys have surrendered 31.6 points per game.

In the wake of two straight losses in which the Wyoming Cowboys gave up more than 50 points, Wyoming head coach Dave Christensen has fired defensive coordinator Chris Tormey effective immediately. Wyoming is still 4-4 on the year but has allowed 31.6 points per game (39.3 in conference play), and the Cowboys looked plain lost on defense in last week's defeat at San Jose State.

Jamar Cain, a first-year defensive line coach, has been named the interim defensive coordinator.

There are rumblings that Tormey’s swift departure might be part of a deeper discord in Laramie, to the point that this saga may only be at its start:

Football Scoop declines to mention what that “more” could be but perhaps it’s time to look at Christensen himself, as he hasn’t exactly put Tormey or his defense in position to succeed over the past few years:

Wyoming is on a bye week this week as a home date with unbeaten Fresno State looms on Nov. 9.
