Carter Hutton shows us what regression to the mean looks like

Carter Hutton wasn’t going to keep that .927 save percentage all season. Sometimes crazy stuff happens.

Carter Hutton entered Thursday's game in Phoenix with a .927 save percentage for the Nashville Predators, which is a very good number for a 28-year-old backup goaltender that has limited NHL experience.

It’s also probably not very sustainable and due to come back down to earth a little bit (in his minor league career he never finished a full season with a save percentage higher than .917). Sometimes the puck takes crazy bounces. Sometimes it just finds it’s way to the back of the net.

That's what happened in the second period of Thursday's game against the Coyotes when this innocent looking shot from Jordan Szwarz rolled past Hutton.

Hutton has been filling in as Nashville’s starter in place of the injured Pekka Rinne.
