The Lions take the lead in the NFC North with a win in Chicago, the Panthers make a big statement in San Francisco, and the Broncos hold on to stay perfect in the division going into next week’s clash against the Chiefs.

The NFL is overrun by Terio

    Jason Bridge-USA TODAY Sports

The Cincinnati Bengals got to overtime thanks to a ridiculous Hail Mary. But they couldn’t move the ball in overtime, and Justin Tucker nailed the field goal, and he took full advantage of his moment in the spotlight.

    Yes, it was Terio time.

    Andy Dalton is scared

    Patrick Smith

Andy Dalton isn’t having a good day in Baltimore and it got a little worse as he was sacked in the third quarter of Sunday’s game.

Dalton was attempting to pass to Giovani Bernard when he realized the running back may have not seen him. Know the look on someone’s face in a movie when they are clinging for dear life and finally let go? This is that face.

    Tavon Austin does the Terio

    Pat Lovell-USA TODAY Sports

Fittingly, he celebrated his 81-yarder in the third quarter with this special dance.

Here’s the touchdown itself. Austin came out from behind a bunch formation on the left side of the line. It got him into the middle of the field with hardly any coverage at all. And with his wheels, it’s impossible to catch up.

    DeSean Jackson scores backwards

    Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports

Nick Foles can’t stop throwing touchdowns. Even when he throws into double coverage and it should be intercepted by virtually all rights, he throws touchdowns.

This pick-turned-deflection-turned TD allowed DeSean Jackson to style his way into the end zone:

E.J. Manuel to start vs. Steelers

    Kevin Hoffman-USA TODAY Sports

Most importantly, Manuel’s ability to play allows first-year head coach Doug Marrone more opportunities to evaluate his young quarterback and get him regular season reps, which will put the team in good stead for 2014 and beyond.

    Bills-Steelers game preview

    Tom Szczerbowski

The Steelers are now 2-6 and their divisional title hopes are all but dead. It’s fair to wonder if the coaching staff will see any shakeup after missing the playoffs two years in a row.

Manuel is still a raw talent, but he’s the best option the Bills offense has. Poor quarterback play has squandered an excellent effort by the defense, leading to a 3-6 record.

    Bengals-Ravens: Fighting in the North

    Andy Lyons

On the other side, the Bengals are trying to bounce back after losing last Thursday night to the Dolphins in overtime. Cincinnati is still sitting pretty, currently in the No. 4 seed with a 6-3 record, but can not afford to slip much with Cleveland nipping at its heels. While this game is more important to the Ravens, it would be a tough pill to swallow for the Bengals should they lose.

Cincinnati is enjoying a breakout season for Andy Dalton. Many question if the redhead from TCU can get the job done, but the numbers speak for themselves. In his first two seasons, Dalton led the Bengals to the playoffs both times and has thrown for 2,587 yards and 16 touchdowns this year, ranking him fourth and fifth respectively.

    Broncos-Chargers: Showdown in the West

    Christopher Hanewinckel-US PRESSWIRE

The story of the 2013 Chargers begins and ends with the resurrection of quarterback Philip Rivers. The former 2004 first round pick has amassed 2,473 yards and 17 touchdowns versus only seven interceptions. Rivers has been able to master Mike McCoy’s offense which is reliant on completions of any distance, registering a league-high 72.2 completion percentage.

Unfortunately, the good news stops on offense. San Diego has struggled at just about everything defensively, giving up yards and points at a very high rate. With no true pass-rusher to speak of, the Chargers rank 27th against the pass. The rushing defense also has plenty of problems, giving up over 118 yards on average.

    49ers vs. Panthers preview

    Bob Martin-USA TODAY Sports

Let’s take a look at both teams below, starting with the home team:

The 49ers definitely have some skewed stats when you look at the offensive side of the ball. They are among the top teams in the league, yet have the No. 32 passing offense at 189.9 yards per game on average. On the flipside, they have the No. 1 rushing attack, with 153.0 yards on the ground on average.

Can the Packers beat Philadelpia without Rodgers?

    Mike McGinnis

Although the matchup at quarterback may not be what was expected at the start of the season, or even a few weeks ago, the game itself will still have plenty of playoff implications. Both teams are in contention, with Green Bay tied for the NFC North lead and Philadelphia one game back in the NFC East.

The focus in Green Bay has been on the loss of Rodgers, but the Packers are more capable of surviving without their star quarterback than in previous seasons. Rookie Eddie Lacy has given the Packers a legitimate No. 1 running back. With James Starks finally healthy, the Packers run the ball as well as anyone in the NFL. Green Bay is second in the NFL in rushing, averaging 148.6 yards per game.
