Quincy Pondexter injury: Grizzlies shooter out with broken nose

Memphis will be hampered offensively without one of its best perimeter players, even though he hasn’t done much so far this season.

If there's one thing the Memphis Grizzlies can't afford to lose, it's a shooter. Unfortunately, that's just what befell them on Monday night in Indianapolis, as X-ray results revealed Quincy Pondexter suffered a broken nose against the Pacers.

To be clear, Pondexter hasn’t exactly lit the earth ablaze with his shooting thus far this season. The fourth-year small forward has been, in a word, terrible. He’s shooting 31.3 percent from the arc and 31 percent from the floor, but he’s at least been a threat for the shooting-starved Grizzlies.

Without the presence of Pondexter, Memphis will depend even more heavily on the body of Mike Miller, who simply hasn't been a player you can depend on for long stretches of an NBA season. With Jerryd Bayless also out, the Grizz will have their work cut out for them with a perimeter group that can't supply enough firepower even when Pondexter is in the lineup.

Pondexter recently signed a new deal with Memphis worth $14 million, so expect the Grizzlies to take their time in making sure he’s ready to go. It’s too early to tell at this point how long the forward will be out.
