The Los Angeles Lakers blew out the young Pelicans, 116-95, at Staples Center on Tuesday night. Jordan Hill had 21 points and 11 rebounds, and Nick Young and Xavier Henry combined for 32 points on just 19 shots off the bench for the scrappy Lakers, who put the game away by halftime.
Pelicans vs. Lakers recap: Los Angeles dominates New Orleans at Staples
Those scrappy, Kobe-less Lakers improve to 4-5 with impressive blowout victory.
Los Angeles shot 55 percent from the floor, including a reasonable 11-for-20 from deep, and the Lakers absolutely destroyed the young Pelicans on the boards by a 22-rebound margin. They also played great defensively, holding New Orleans to just 40 percent shooting and giving up only 31 rebounds.
The Mike D’Antoni system continues to have success, as the Lakers registered 33 assists and put up 20 three-point attempts. Kobe Bryant still has no exact timetable for his return, but it will be interesting to watch the offense adjust when he returns.
The Pelicans had only three players in double figures, and Anthony Davis’ line of 15 points and five rebounds was a bit more pedestrian than the superstar numbers he’s put up during the first half month of the schedule.
