Lindsey Vonn injury: Skier re-injures ACL in training crash

Vonn’s status for the Winter Olympics is now up the air after suffering another injury on her surgically repaired knee.

Paul Bussi-USA TODAY Sports

Olympic skier Lindsey Vonn suffered another ACL injury to her right knee in a training crash, her publicist confirmed to NBC Sports. It’s the same knee that she blew out last February.

Vonn reinjured her knee in a crash while training in Colorado. According to her publicist Lewis Kay, she has a mild knee strain, partially torn ACL, minor facial abrasions and scapular contusions. She will rest for a few days before beginning rehab and physical therapy.

It’s another major blow to Vonn’s injury-plagued year. She tore her ACL, MCL and fa a tibia fracture at the World Championships in February. Vonn was expected to start racing again next week, but will almost certainly have to miss that event. She’s now in a race against the clock to get healthy for the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, which start in just three months. Vonn took home two medals at the 2010 Vancouver Games and became the first female American to win gold medal in the downhill skiing event.
