Pacquiao vs. Rios odds: Manny a comfortable favorite to score first win in two years

Manny Pacquiao is sitting at around a -500 favorite at some sportsbooks for this weekend’s bout with Brandon Rios.

It seems hard to believe that the once king -- or at least co-king -- of boxing, Manny Pacquiao, has not had his hand raised in a fight in over two years. Of course, that statistic is a bit misleading. After all, Pacquiao absolutely deserved the nod over Timothy Bradley in June of last year, a rare case of inept judges scoring the fight against the “money fighter.”

That said, there was no doubt about the fourth bout with Juan Manuel Marquez bout, as Pacquiao was left face-down after a brutal punch.

Saturday night, live on HBO pay-per-view, Pacquiao looks to get back in the win column when he takes on Brandon Rios. Rios is an action fighter who is never in a bad fight, so boxing fans are excited for the prospect of a fight that will be worth their money.

At the online sports books it is Pacquiao who is the comfortable favorite to get the win, coming in at anywhere between -400 to -500. For the betting novice, that means that you’d have to wager that amount ($400 or $500) to win $100. Rios is anywhere from a +300 to +410 underdog. Meaning a $100 bet would win you $300 (or $410...or whatever the odds you’re playing are).

The reasoning here is fairly clear: this is a welterweight fight and Rios has never fought above light welterweight.

Rios is aggressive, he does throw a lot of punches, but how high up his power will translate is a big question. As is how well his chin will hold up at 147.

He was able to eat a ton of shots from Mike Alvarado in their two fights at light welterweight, but Pacquiao is a different animal.
