Harvard’s Jaron Wilson ejected for targeting hit against Yale

Even the Ivy League’s big rivalry game is subject to new NCAA rules.

Harvard’s senior safety Jaron Wilson was ejected for a targeting hit in the second quarter of Saturday’s Harvard-Yale game.

Wilson was covering the deep middle of the field when Yale senior QB Henry Furman lofted a pass to sophomore WR Mathew Rubino. Wilson came from his deep safety position to knock the ball loose from Rubino, but was flagged in the process.

Wilson, playing his final career game, appeared to be leading with his shoulder, and may have hit the upper back of Rubino, not the helmet. The hit is not reviewable in the Ivy League, which has not instituted instant replay in order to review questionable calls.

The drive 54-yard drive came up fruitless for the Bulldogs when it ended in a missed 39-yard field goal by junior kicker Kyle Kazzetta.

Harvard was winning 21-0 behind three touchdowns by sophomore RB Paul Stanton Jr, two receiving and one rushing.
