Manny Pacquiao borrowing money to aid typhoon relief

The Philippines have frozen Manny Pacquiao’s bank accounts, which will impact his ability to provide his charitable obligations.

Manny Pacquiao was a winner this past weekend, but an issue with the Philippines has left him broke. The former world champion promised to provide relief for the Typhoon Haiyan victims, but the Bureau of Internal Revenue has frozen his bank accounts, according to the Associated Press. Per the report, Pacquiao had to borrow money in order to pay for relief supplies prior to his win against Brandon Rios on Saturday. He says that he will provide relief for more than 10,000 families.

The Bureau of Internal Revenue closed Pacquiao’s and his wife’s bank accounts in the Philippines after the boxer failed to prove he paid his taxes from 2008-09. Pacquiao claimed to have paid his taxes in the United States. Had he not paid the proper taxes in the U.S., he would have been arrested entering the country.

Pacquiao says that the Bureau’s allegations of him being paid more than publicized are not true.
