William Gallas will miss three weeks with a calf injury

36-year-old defender came up lame before halftime on Saturday, leaving his total at less than 60 minutes played so far this season.

Perth’s Marquee Player will miss the next three weeks with a calf injury sustained in the Glory’s last-minute loss to Central Coast Mariners over the weekend. According to the man himself, in an interview with Thursday FC on SBS, William Gallas will be absent after he limped from the nib Stadium pitch after only half an hour on Saturday. The 36-year-old Gallas cited an MRI and presumably his history of calf injuries to suggest the timeframe for his expected return.

The Glory will be extremely short-handed over the next few weeks as Gallas and Scott Jamieson will be out of defense due to injury. Jamieson ruptured his achilles and will be out for the rest of the year while Gallas’ calf will prevent him from playing. Meanwhile, captain Jacob Burns will be out suspended for the next fortnight thanks to a retroactive action on the part of the A-League’s Match Review Panel. Burns’ stomp on Mariners midfielder John Hutchinson means Alistair Edwards will need to shuffle his line-up once again.

Given the amount they are paying him, and just on a one-year contract, the Glory will not be too pleased that Gallas is set to miss more time. The Frenchman has only appeared in two matches through seven rounds, coming on as a second half substitute in Round 6 against Adelaide United before coming off injured before halftime in Round 7 against Central Coast. In other words, Gallas will have played less than an hour through the season’s first ten rounds by the time he makes his return.
