World Junior Championship: Riley Barber scores from below the goal line

Captain Riley Barber opened the scoring for the United States at the World Junior Championship on Thursday with this bad angle goal against the Czech Republic.

It took the United States just a little more than a minute to open the scoring in the 2014 World Junior Championship, and it was team captain Riley Barber getting them on the board first with this bad-angle goal against the Czech Republic on Thursday.

Just get it at the net and good things can happen.

That’s an awful goal for Czech Republic goaltender Daniel Dolejs, and things didn’t get much better for him just 40 seconds later when the United States took a 2-0 lead thanks to a goal from Will Butcher. Both goals came on the power play.

That’s a great start for the Americans coming off of their Gold Medal performance at the 2013 tournament.

Barber was a sixth-round draft pick by the Washington Capitals in 2012. Prior to the tournament he had scored 11 goals to go with 17 assists in 18 games this season for Miami (Ohio) University.
