Josep Gombau has sent defender Jordan Elsey on loan to Kitchee FC of the Hong Kong First Division, according to a club press release. The 19-year-old center back is looking for first team minutes and could get an opportunity at Gombau’s former club. The Spaniard came to Adelaide from Kitchee after winning consecutive championships in 2010/11 and 2011/12. Kitchee finished second last season but are currently atop the table without a loss in 2013/14.
Hong Kong loan for Adelaide United’s Jordan Elsey
The Reds’ young defender is off in search of first team minutes at Kitchee.

While Gombau’s ties to Barcelona are more frequently cited, and understandably so, his connection to Hong Kong can be an important one for young Adelaide players. Though the domestic competition may not be the strongest in Asia, Kitchee is regularly involved in the AFC Cup. A loan beginning in January will afford Elsey the chance to play in the fairly benign Group H before returning to Adelaide in May.
Elsey will need to qualify for a work permit and pass a medical before the move is finalized.
