Embattled manager John Aloisi has had his contract terminated with immediate effect, according to a Melbourne Heart press release on Sunday morning. Aloisi has been on the ropes for weeks as his team has tried and failed to win a game in this A-League season. The streak has reached twelve games this year and includes the final five games of last season, dating to March 3. Heart have also failed to even draw eight of their twelve games in 2013/14, prompting the board to finally sever ties with the former Heart player and National Youth League coach.

Zero wins from twelve this season led to the early dismissal of foundation player and now former manager John Aloisi.

Chairman Peter Sidwell provided the quotes for the press release:
”John has been an absolute professional at our club; as an inaugural player, as a coach of our National Youth League side and as head coach of our Hyundai A-League team. No one can question his professionalism while at Melbourne Heart FC, nor his significant contribution to this club since its inception. I have spoken with John and he was gracious and understood the club’s decision.
“We have the greatest respect for the commitment he made to Melbourne Heart FC and the dignified manner in which he has carried himself through a difficult period.”
Whether the sacking has anything to do with the expected sale of the club or if it is just on the merits of his team’s disastrous campaign, Aloisi’s dismissal is among the least surprising events of the season in the A-League. According to the Herald Sun, former Heart boss John van’t Schip, who has been working as an academy consultant for the club this season, will return from Europe and see out the rest of the year.
