Super Bowl 2013: Ravens GM Ozzie Newsome wants Joe Flacco re-signed long term

Add Newsome to the “Bring Back Joe” campaign.

Baltimore Ravens general manager Ozzie Newsome wants quarterback Joe Flacco around for a long time, according to New York Newsday's Bob Glauber:

With Newsome in no danger of losing his job, this sounds good for Flacco.

Flacco has tried for the last couple of seasons to prove he’s an “elite” quarterback and earn that kind of money. With Flacco set to become a free agent after this season, that might just happen.

Flacco said earlier this week that he wants a contract in the Drew Brees realm -- $20 million per season. Brees is the highest-paid quarterback in the NFL.

The 28-year-old quarterback out of Delaware hasn’t missed a game in his NFL career. This season, Flacco completed 59 percent of his passes for 3,817 yards and 22 touchdowns. He threw just 10 interceptions.

This postseason has been even better for Flacco. In three games, Flacco has thrown for 853 yards, eight touchdowns and zero interceptions.

Flacco and the Ravens play the San Francisco 49ers in Super Bowl XLVII on Sunday in New Orleans.
