Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue 2013: Kate Upton back on cover, Katherine Webb debuts

SI has unveiled their 2013 Swimsuit cover and it’s a repeat performance for Kate Upton, who graces the issue from Antarctica.

Supermodel Kate Upton is back on the cover of Sports Illustrated’s Swimsuit Issue, as the 2013 edition was unveiled Monday. Upton has made three straight appearances in the magazine, debuting in 2011 as the “Rookie of the Year” and then getting her first cover last February.

Upton has been a pop culture force since SI put her in the 2011 issue, with the most recent headlines coming from Super Bowl commercial for Mercedes. Perhaps her most distinguished honor, however, was being the interview subject of our very own Matt Ufford. Upton joins a select list of models to repeat as solo subjects on the cover -- a list that includes Cheryl Tiegs, Christie Brinkley, Kathy Ireland, and Elle MacPherson. Here’s the image of this year’s cover, taken in Antarctica:

While Upton is the repeat cover subject, the girlfriend of repeat national champion quarterback A.J. McCarron also makes an appearance. Katherine Webb rocketed into stardom after her unknowing role in the broadcast of the Alabama-Notre Dame title game, and it didn’t take long for SI to turn around and include the beauty pageant queen one month later. The combination of Webb and Upton should sell quite a few magazines, but you can also view plenty of content from this year’s issue online at SI’s Swimsuit Issue section.
