Beanpot 2013: No. 4 BC, Northeastern scoreless after first period

In the 61st Annual Beanpot Tournament, No. 4 BC and Northeastern skated to a scoreless tie after one period of play.

BOSTON -- In the 61st Annual Beanpot title game, the No. 4 Boston College Eagles and Northeastern Huskies skated to a scoreless tie in their fourth all-time meeting to decide the winner of the tournament.

The Huskies were put in an early hole at the 4:19 mark of the first period as freshman Kevin Roy was sent to the penalty box for a questionable hooking call in BC senior Parker Milner’s stick-side corner. NU captain Vinny Saponari had several key clears on the kill as he continued his stellar defensive play in the tournament.

BC was credited with the first seven shots of the stanza before NU got one off on Milner just over the halfway mark. The Eagles held a 10-5 advantage through the entirety of the period.

20 seconds into the second Eagle power play of the night (called on Garrett Vermeersch for hooking at 11:42), junior Bill Arnold broke through the NU defense for a great shot that was gloved away by NU senior Chris Rawlings.

During the intermission, the Eagles certainly need to tighten things up on the power play as they were unable to capitalize on any of their three chances in the stanza.
