College football recruiting 2014: Khairi Clark scouting report

Massive four-star defensive tackle might be the best run stopper in this year’s class.

Florida-based defensive tackle Khairi Clark is quickly moving up recruiting boards. The 6’3, 322-lb. run-stuffer plays for Hollywood, Florida’s Chaminade Madonna High School. As a junior, he recorded 60 tackles and nine quarterback sacks, numbers nearly identical to his 60-tackle, eight-sack sophomore season.

Clark is a consensus four-star recruit, earning four-star ratings from Rivals, Scout, and 24/7. All three services rate him among the nation’s top 75 players, and Clark was named as Scout.com’s top 2014 defensive tackle prospect in February. He is being chased by some of the nation’s top programs, and holds offers from Florida, Florida State, Miami, Georgia, Notre Dame, Michigan, Oklahoma, LSU, South Carolina, and Clemson, among others.

For those who want to follow his recruitment closely, Clark is available on Twitter at @KhairiClark.

Bud Elliott, SB Nation Recruiting: Clark is a special talent. I’ve seen him in person several times over the years, and each time he looks better.

Clark starts with excellent power. He is able to bend (though he needs to do this more consistently), explode with his hips, and overpower blockers. He has a wide base, and though I think he should try to show up closer to 300 pounds than 330 before building to that in college, he still moves quite well for being 322 pounds.

Clark must work on staying lower, making better use of his hands to keep blockers away from his body, and pursuing the football.

Clark is able to explode at the snap better than most men of his size, and does offer some plus ability as a pass rusher.

Depending on the team, Clark may be good enough to start at defensive tackle as a freshman, something that is quite rare for the position.

Look through SB Nation’s many excellent college football blogs to find your team’s community.
