The Dallas Mavericks are interested in trading for Milwaukee Bucks guard Beno Udrih, but only if the Bucks’ efforts to acquire Josh Smith fall short.

Udrih’s situation is fluid because he has a $7.8 million expiring contract that might be useful in matching salary in a Smith deal. The Bucks are reportedly one of the front-runners for Smith and would like to save all their trade assets to securing him. If a deal cannot be worked out, the Mavericks’ offer could be a backup plan.
Udrih is averaging 6.7 points and 3.5 assists per game in 18.4 minutes per contest this season. The Mavericks have been victimized by sometimes-erratic play from starting point guard Darren Collison, so Udrih would offer them a security blanked. It remains unclear what pieces might end up going back to the Bucks in a deal with Dallas.
