The Dallas Cowboys continue to dig themselves out of their salary cap hole by agreeing to a restructured deal with tight end Jason Witten, according to Nick Eatman. The new deal will save the Cowboys approximately $3.65 million against the cap in 2013 according to Todd Archer. Witten is the second player to rework his deal with the Cowboys in as many days, with DeMarcus Ware restructuring his contract on Wednesday.

The Cowboys have reworked yet another one of their veteran contracts, agreeing to a restructured deal with Jason Witten.

The Cowboys were an estimated $20 million over the cap before they began to rework player contracts. Witten was due $5.5 million with an $8 million cap hit in 2013 before restructuring, which will save $3.65 million towards the cap. His contract carries through the end of the 2017 season.
Ware’s new deal created $4 million in cap space, making a total of $7.65 million in savings between the two players. But with the Cowboys expected to restructure seven to eight player contracts, it is likely these salary cap problems will reappear in future offseasons. To help them get under the cap in the 2013 season, the Cowboys are converting contracts into bonuses that will be spread over multiple seasons, creating higher cap hits in future years.
Despite the Cowboys cap situation, they did manage to sign one of their free agents to a new deal on Thursday. Long snapper L.P. Ladouceur agreed to five-year deal to remain with the Cowboys that features a $600,000 signing bonus.
