The easiest way to make a great Super Bowl commercial is to make it funny, so Samsung did just that.
Super Bowl ads 2013: Samsung’s Seth Rogen, Paul Rudd ad a hit
Was Samsung’s Super Bowl commercial better than its teaser? Maybe not. Regardless, Samsung came out of Super Bowl XLVII with one of the better commercials.

Samsung brought in Seth Rogen and Paul Rudd for its attempt at making one of the ads for Super Bowl XLVII. The actors -- who have worked together numerous times, mostly in Judd Apatow flicks -- meet in the lobby of Samsung, unknown to each other that they were both working on “The Next Big Thing” for Samsung.
Rogen starts the back and forth by saying, “Maybe in like 1998 you were the next big thing.”
Here’s the full commercial in its entire two-plus minutes of glory -- including a cameo by LeBron James:
The ad has been called “semi-successful,” but better than a BlackBerry ad that also aired.
With the commercial checking in at over two minutes long, plus with Rudd, Rogen and James being the stars, the commercial cost $15 million.
Samsung, like many companies this year, released a teaser ad before the Super Bowl. It can be argued that the teaser was actually better than the Super Bowl commercial. Here’s the teaser:
Regardless, Samsung did a nice job making both ads funny but not over the top.
