Super Bowl halftime show 2013: Beyonce steps up her game
Beyonce had a lot to prove -- and she did just that.

After lip-syncing at the presidential inauguration a few weeks ago, Beyonce had come under fire from media and fans. She answered her critics by belting the National Anthem in front of the press during Super Bowl media week.
She continued her dominant streak Sunday night.
The highlight for most was the return of Destiny’s Child, who joined Beyonce on stage a few songs into her performance. The Chicago Tribune’s Greg Kot had a glowing review of the reunion:
The leather-clad trio looked like a walking, strutting advertisement for a dominatrix-boutique franchise. But Rowland and Williams came off as Beyonce’s backing band, dutifully singing harmonies on one of the singer’s biggest solo singles, “Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It).” Her Destiny’s Child accomplices were part of a huge ensemble of dancers and musicians that appeared to consist entirely of women.
Beyonce sang a handful of songs, including “Crazy in Love.” The song features a rap verse from her husband, Jay-Z, but he did not make an appearance at the halftime show despite being in the building for support.
Like Madonna before her, The Hollywood Reporter wrote that Beyonce continued the transition “away from dad rock to embrace girl power.”
With the lip syncing history in mind, the Los Angeles Times put Beyonce’s performance the best:
Perhaps the most important sound of her show, though, was unplanned. As she danced and asked that the crowd clap along, her microphone hand made an audible thump. It was loud and obvious. And it proved something true: The mike was live, and our singer was too.
