Seton Hall vs. USF preview: Pirates, Bulls open Big East Tournament desperate for a win

The Big East Tournament will open on Tuesday night, when the No. 13 seeded South Florida Bulls take on the No. 12 seeded Seton Hall Pirates. Both teams need to win out to make the NCAA Tournament.

South Florida and Seton Hall will kick off the Big East Tournament on Tuesday night, with each team needing to win out to make the Big Dance. The Pirates won the only meeting between the two during the regular season, with a 55-47 victory back on Jan. 23.

For Seton Hall (14-17, 3-15 Big East) to have similar success on Tuesday night, they'll need to rely on strong play from forward Fuquan Edwin. The Pirates' leading scorer and second-leading rebounder notched a double-double the first time these two clubs played, pouring in 16 points and grabbing 10 boards. Forward Brandon Mobley added 14 points off the bench for Seton Hall, which has won just one Big East game since taking down the Bulls nearly seven weeks ago.

Meanwhile if South Florida (12-18, 3-15 Big East) is to get a victory on Tuesday, they'll need a better effort from star Victor Rudd than they got in the first meeting between the two teams. In that game Rudd scored just six points on just 2-of-9 shooting from the field. Reserve Jawanza Poland led the Bulls with 13 points off the bench.

The winner of Tuesday night’s game will take on No. 5 seeded Syracuse at 2 p.m. on Wednesday afternoon.
