Rutgers vs. DePaul preview: Scarlet Knights, Blue Demons close out Day 1 of Big East Tournament

In the second game of Tuesday night’s Big East Tournament double-header, the No. 11 seeded Rutgers Scarlet Knights will play the No. 14 seeded DePaul Blue Demons. DePaul won the only regular season meeting between these two teams back on Feb. 16.

Following an early evening match-up between South Florida and Seton Hall, the No. 14 seed DePaul Blue Demons will play the No. 11 seed Rutgers Scarlet Knights in the second half of a Big East Tournament double-header Tuesday night. DePaul notched a 75-69 victory in the only meeting between the two schools this year.

For DePaul to have similar success Tuesday, they'll need strong play from their potent one-two punch of guard Brandon Young and forward Cleveland Melvin. The pair averaged 16-plus points apiece during the 2013 regular season, and in the first match-up between the clubs combined for 31 points and 12 rebounds. Guard Worrel Clahar added 19 points and seven assists in the win.

Meanwhile for Rutgers to get a victory on Tuesday night, they'll need to have a more balanced attack than they got at DePaul on February 16. In that game, guard Myles Mack went off for 28 points, but forward Wally Judge was the only other Scarlet Knight to score in double-figures with 10 points. As a team, Rutgers was also out-rebounded 34-29 in the paint.

The winner of this game will face the No. 6 seed Notre Dame at 9 p.m. EST on Wednesday.

Game time, TV: 9 p.m. ET, ESPNU/WatchESPN
Location: Madison Square Garden, New York
