The No. 9-seeded Texas Tech Red Raiders won the opening game of the Big 12 Tournament in thrilling fashion, beating West Virginia, 71-69, on a last-second Dejan Kravic put-back.

The Big 12 Tournament opened in exciting fashion Wednesday night, as the No. 9 seed Texas Tech Red Raiders beat the No. 8 West Virginia Mountaineers on a last-second score. Texas Tech now advances to Thursday’s quarterfinal, where they’ll face top-seeded Kansas.

The shot by Kravic ended a big day for the Red Raiders, which had five players score in double figures. Texas Tech was led by Jaye Crockett's 18 points off the bench, with Ty Nurse adding 12, Jordan Tolbert scoring 11 and Josh Gray and Kravic each chipping in 10 points.
For West Virginia, it's a disappointing end to their first season in the Big 12. With the loss, the Mountaineers fall to 13-20 overall and will miss the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2007. Guard Terry Henderson led West Virginia with 12 points off the bench, while center Aaric Murray added 11 points and eight rebounds.
Texas Tech will now advance to play to Thursday’s quarterfinals, where they’ll face No. 1 seed Kansas.
