College Basketball Recruiting: Julius Randle picks Kentucky over Kansas, Florida and Texas

Julius Randle, one of the top high school basketball players in the 2013 class announced on Wednesday he will play at Kentucky next season. Randle chose the Wildcats over Kansas, Florida and Texas.

USA TODAY Sports

Julius Randle, the No. 3 high school basketball player in ESPN.com’s Class of 2013 rankings, made his college announcement Wednesday afternoon, selecting the University of Kentucky over Kansas, Florida and Texas.

Randle, a 6’9, 225-pound power forward from Prestonwood Christian Academy in Dallas joins a staggering recruiting class in Lexington, one that includes the top point guard in the country (Texas guard Andrew Harrison), the top-ranked shooting guard (Harrison’s twin brother Andrew) and James Young, a small forward who is ranked as the No. 6 player in the class, according to ESPNU.

Overall, Kentucky now has five of the top 11 players in the class committed, and six of the top 18 overall.

Randle enters Kentucky after a quiet senior season, one in which he was limited with a fractured foot. Earlier this winter, he was named both a McDonald’s All-American and Jordan Brand All-American.
