NBC, ESPN lead 34th annual Sports Emmy nominations

Networks and entities as diverse as Telemundo, Bravo and Grantland received nominations.

Did you know that they have Emmys for sports broadcasting? They do! The nominations were announced Wednesday for the 34th-annual Sports Emmys, and many of the names you’d expect were up for the awards.

NBC Sports Group led all the major sports conglomerates, with 58 nominations between NBC, NBCSN, Golf Channel, NBCOlympics.com, Bravo, CNBC, MSNBC, NBCSports.com and Telemundo. ESPN came in second, with 43 between ESPN, ESPN2, Grantland (yes, really), ABC, ESPN 3D, ESPNU and ESPNews. Turner (TNT, TBS, NBA TV, TruTV and NCAA.com) came in third with 27, while Fox (FOX, Speed, Fox Soccer) and HBO tied with 17. NFL Network (16), CBS (15 between CBS, Showtime and CBS Sports Network) and MLB Network (9) followed.

The most nominated single sports program? The London Olympics, with 14 nominations. The NBA on TNT and Real Sports with Bryant Gumbel followed with six apiece. E:60 followed with five, while 24/7, Hard Knocks, MLB on Fox, Outside the Lines and Sunday Night Football all tied with four.
