2013 Tavistock Cup scores: Tim Clark, Adam Scott among winners in modified 1st round

With Monday’s delayed finish to the Arnold Palmer Invitational, the first round of the Tavistock Cup proceeded with a slightly different format.

Several players scheduled to participate in the Tavistock Cup were instead forced to finish their final round of the Arnold Palmer Invitational. As a result, the Tavistock Cup switched from singles stroke-play to a four-ball better-ball format on Monday. Monday’s results will not count toward the official Tavistock Cup, but there was still some entertaining golf.

Tim Clark and Adam Scott combined for the lowest score on Monday, as their 8-under just edged out Ross Fisher and Graeme McDowell, who combined to shoot 7-under. Fred Couples and Jay Haas combined for a 7-under, which defeated Bo Van Pelt and Bubba Watson’s 6-under.

Peter Hanson and Webb Simpson’s 6-under was good enough to defeat Brian Davis and D.A. Points, while Paul McGinley and Tom Lewis knocked off Bob Tway and Scott Verplank. Simpson, Verplank, Clark and Lewis won the four closest-to-the-pin competitions, with Clark’s shot on No. 11 the closest of the bunch at 2’1.

The Tavistock Cup will be decided on Tuesday with the usual singles stroke-play format.
