On the cover of this 1947 issue of Our Gang comics (#35), the kid is blowing off practicing his violin to go play baseball in his mismatched uniform. The joke here - such as it is - is that one is a legitimate pursuit and the other is frivolous and must be done on the sly. Now, I don’t know how it was in 1947, but if you have a kid today and that kid has a shot at a career in either fiddle sawing or horsehide whacking, you’ll drive him to the ballfield yourself because the average salary of a big leaguer is about $3.5 million and the average salary of a violinist is something far less than that.
