NEW ORLEANS -- If there’s one thing the city of New Orleans knows how to do, it’s throw a party. A big party. And while the Big Easy’s biggest parties are typically Mardis Gras and Jazz Fest, the Fair Grounds Race Course is hosting its biggest celebration ever in anticipation of the 100th running of the $1 million Louisiana Derby.
Louisiana Derby 2013: A Party At The Fair Grounds
The Fair Grounds Race Course in New Orleans is ready to celebrate the 100th Louisiana Derby as only New Orleans can and the track is featuring some uniquely New Orleans cuisine, like alligator etouffee.

The central focus of this year’s Louisiana Derby celebration is the Fair Grounds Infield Fest, a extravaganza of food trucks, live music and a good, old-fashioned New Orleans party. Oh, and food. More food. And even more food. Because nothing says a “party” in New Orleans like some fantastic food. And some alligator etouffee.
The 100th running of the Louisiana Derby is scheduled to go to post at 6:44 p.m. ET and features a full field of 14 three-year-old colts all vying for the winner’s share of the $1 million purse and a spot in this year’s Kentucky Derby.
